Eric Foss, who won the Spec Miata race on Monday, lets the smoke out of his tires trying to stay ahead of Chris Edens and the rest of the mad pack of SM drivers.

And it does rain at Memphis in the summer! Afternoon showers hit the track two of the three days of racing. This Spec Racer Ford (SRF) driver splooshes through the puddles on Saturday.

Chris Edens ran the Improved Touring race on Saturday and did very well. Spec Miatas are also legal in this class.

Your very own Arkansas Miata Club SCCA liason and chief instructor for Miatas at Hallett, Ren Tucker, has this Spec Miata thing figured out.

Ray Wilson went from Miatas at Hallett spectator to Miata owner to Spec Miata racer in about one year. When the bug bites, it bites hard.

Blake Clements came all the way from Texas to challenge the Midwest Spec Miata drivers. After breaking his transmission on Sunday, he came back Monday to finish strong. This is one of the best turned out Specs other than Chris'.

Sam Henry of Springfield Dyno had strong finishes both days in the National races. Having your own dyno really helps with tuning. Sam is part of the Saferacer crew from Missouri.

Charlie James, formerly from Benton AR, leads the Saferacer group. This car is super fast, and was featured in the same article with Chris Edens in Grassroots Motorsports magazine.

Saferacer group in the paddock. They have an impressive setup, including an 18 wheeler to transport the cars and spare parts/tires. The canopy is handy when it's hot or raining. You can find every setup imaginable, from single cars on open trailers to big outfits like this.

Someone asked me if there were any cars there other than Miatas. Here's a snap of one of the D Sports Racer's that was there. These cars are very light and use motorcycle engines for power. Fast and loud.

Rossella Manfrinatto could be the next female Indy driver. This Formula Continental open wheel racer is one of the stepping stone classes to professional motorsports.

The fastest cars at most SCCA races are the Formula Atlantics. These purpose built racecars are sleek and powerful, and are often from a professional race series. The gentleman driving this one was fast, and even more impressive, was doing it with only one leg!

You can see a wide variety of Mazdas at any SCCA race. This E Production first generation RX-7 is an example. Mazda is very active in club racing.

Another representative example of Mazdas in racing, this "3" runs in Showroom Stock C, a class in which the car must remain as stock as possible, with only the addition of safety items such as roll cages and racing seat belts. Note that the left rear tire on this car is completely off the ground going into a hard left corner!

(This one's for Jay) If you look closely, you can see an E Production Miata in the background. Production Miatas are full on race cars, lowered, gutted and set up strictly for racing. Miatas can be found in Improved Touring, Spec Miata, Production, and Showroom Stock classes! A great car makes a great racecar.
